[Love Hina]

TV Series

Love Hina is the story of a socially awkward young man by the name of Keitarou who, after failing the entrance exam for Todai twice, becomes the manager of a girl's dormitory. With its' own hot spring. Cue fan service in spades ^_^

[Ah, the gang's all here...]

Ah, the gang's all here...

[Aren't Hot Springs just so relaxing?]

The premise for the story is this: When Keitarou was but a wee whipper snapper, he made a pact with his childhood sweetheart to attend Todai (Tokyo University) together. This was all meant to lead to his eternal happiness but, unfortunately, the girl has long since moved away; he can't remember her name; and, worst of all, he has twice failed the entrance exam. D'oh! Not a good start.

Aren't Hot Springs just so relaxing?

After his latest failure, Keitarou's parent's decide he's not worth supporting through another attempt, and he tries to move into the Inn (Hinato Sou) his Grandmother owns. Only problem with this plan: His Grandmother's gone on a round-the-world trip and the Inn is now a Girl's Dorm! After falling over himself several times, Keitarou lands the plum gig as Manager of the establishment, and the fun beings.

[A day at the beach. And another arse-kicking for Keitarou.]

The cast at the beach. Note Keitarou getting his arse kicked in the background.

[Another group shot. What a top bunch of folks.]

And it's at Hinato Sou that we meant the rest of the cast (Well, most of them). First off the bat is Narusegawa, who is Keitarou's love interest. She spends most of her time kicking the crap out of the poor boy. Next, there's Mitsune. She spends most of her time ripping off Keitarou. Then there's Motoko, who's a Kendo warrior of some reknown. She takes an instant dislike to Keitarou, and regularly unleashes a secret move or two on him.

What a top bunch of folks...

Kaolla is the resident tomboy of the house, and something of a mechanical genius. Her inventions cause a lot of trouble, mainly in (you guessed it) Keitarou's direction. Shinobu is the resident cute girl, who has an innocent crush on Keitarou. In a surprising twist, she doesn't beat up Keitarou at all! Hiruka is is Keitarou's Aunt, and the manager of the teashop next-door to Hinata Sou. Later in the series, Seta appears with his adopted daughter, Sara. Seta is linked to more than one of the characters, but I won't spoil that for everyone.

[Always left holding the mop...]

Poor Keitarou - always left holding the mop.

[Love Hina Again - The Girls]

OVA - Love Hina Again

For all those despairing the end of the Love Hina TV Series, a three OVA series was announced for release in Japan in the first quarter of 2002. Two have been released so far. Each OVA is a 30 minute DVD, based on the latter parts of the manga series. As well as the story, the artwork in these OVAs more closely resembles the manga than the TV series' did.

The girls - Love Hina Again style.
